Alberto López Aguillón is from San Sebastián Tecomaxtlahuaca in the Sierra Mixteca of Oaxaca, which is the location of a very colorful church. He has been coming to the Whitestone orchard since 2014, so between colleagues and managers, they get along very well and support each other whenever possible. Since he was young, Alberto’s life has been in the fields and working in agriculture. His father Jaime grows corn, tomatoes, and onions, and Alberto helps him every time he is back in his hometown. He has four children, the youngest is 15 years old, and the oldest is 20, and he comes to work with Alberto here.

Lleva viniendo a la huerta de Whitestone desde 2014, por lo que entre compañeros y jefes se llevan muy bien y se apoyan siempre que podemos. Desde joven, la vida de Alberto ha sido estar en el campo y trabajando en la agricultura. Su padre Jaime cultiva maíz, jitomate y cebolla; cada vez que está en México le ayuda a levantar la cosecha. Tiene cuatro hijos, el menor tiene 15 años y el mayor 20, y viene a trabajar con Alberto aquí.

David Vásquez Salazar was born in 1995 and is originally from Santa Cruz, Yosondica in Mexico. He is single and works in the field. He also likes to play Mixtec ball and some other sports. He has been working with Whitestone since 2019.

Jaime López has been in the United States temporarily since 2020 as an H-2A worker. His father has been working at Whitestone since 2014 and Jaime says it is a joy to be able to come with him and spend all this time together. He says the work is sometimes difficult, especially when at first, but is to be expected normal. In Mexico, Jaime used to work in the fields after school, so he is used to it. In Washington there are different kind of crops that are very rare where he’s from, so Jaime has learned new techniques during this time; right now it has become easier for him. Currently what he likes the most is picking cherries.

Jaime López ha estado en los Estados Unidos temporeramente desde 2020 como trabajador H-2A. Su padre trabaja en Whitestone desde 2014 y Jaime dice que es una alegría poder venir con él y pasar todo este tiempo juntos. Dice que el trabajo a veces es difícil, especialmente al principio, pero es de esperarse. En México, Jaime solía trabajar en el campo después de la escuela, así que está acostumbrado. En Washington hay diferentes tipos de cultivos que son muy raros de donde él es, por lo que Jaime ha aprendido nuevas técnicas durante este tiempo; ahora mismo se ha vuelto más fácil para él. Actualmente, lo que más le gusta es recoger cerezas.

Javier is 25 years old and has been a temporary worker in the United States with Whitestone since 2014. He is from a town called San Antonio El Mogote in Oaxaca. When at home in Mexico, he works in the countryside with his family, and likes to cook with them and to go on walks. Javier has a young son and his wife sends him videos all the time or they have video calls so he doesn’t miss too much about him. Javier likes coming to Washington – he feels very comfortable with his colleagues and managers.

Javier tiene 25 años y ha sido trabajador temporero en los Estados Unidos con Whitestone desde 2014. Es de un pueblo llamado San Antonio El Mogote en Oaxaca. Cuando está en su casa en México, trabaja en el campo con su familia, le gusta cocinar con ellos y salir a caminar. Javier tiene un hijo pequeño y su esposa le envía videos todo el tiempo o hacen videollamadas para que no se pierda mucho de él. A Javier le gusta venir a Washington, se siente muy cómodo con sus colegas y gerentes.

Jesús Javier has been working with Whitestone since 2020. He was hired to work in the apple and pear orchards. In his spare time he rehearses music; he is passionate about playing the keyboard and accordion.

Jhonny Marín Vázquez was born in 1995 and works with Whitestone Mountain. He usually comes to Washington to work every season for 9 months straight. We start early in the year with pruning during winter, all the way to harvest during summer and autumn. The rest of the time, Jhonny is in Mexico working at a grocery store in his hometown. During his free time, he likes to watch and practice soccer and basketball. He doesn’t play that often nowadays, because he prefers to spend his free time with his family and his little 9-year-old princess.

José Juan Gutiérrez Valverde was born in 1988 and is from Oaxaca, from a town called Arroyo Seco. He has a wife and two children: a girl and a boy. He has been coming to Whitestone since 2017 to harvest cherries, pears and apples, with an H-2A visa. When he returns to his hometown, he has different jobs and likes to do a lot of sports.

José Juan Gutiérrez Valverde nació en 1988 y es de Oaxaca de un pueblo que se llama Arroyo Seco. Tiene esposa y dos hijos: una niña y un niño. Lleva desde 2017 viniendo a Whitestone a cosechar cerezas, peras y manzanas, con la visa H-2A. Cuando regresa a su pueblo, tiene diferentes trabajos y le gusta hacer mucho deporte.

He has brothers who live in California and have worked in construction there. He enjoys soccer and when he returns to Oaxaca he works in the fields.

Luis Alberto Pérez Cedillon was born in 1990 and is from the state of Oaxaca. He has been working for Whitestone since 2019 in the morning harvest. When he returns to Mexico, he likes to watch soccer and be with his family. He has 4 children: the eldest is 20 years old and the youngest is 8 months old.

Margarito Marín has been coming to Washington since 2017. He is originally from the Mixteca region of Oaxaca; there are many towns between the mountains, people dress in colorful ways and there is a lot of tradition. Back home, Margarito dedicates his time to being a taxi driver. Every time he returns to his hometown, he likes spending quality time with his family. Margarito’s wife is pregnant with their second child and will be born when Margarito returns home after harvest.

Margarito Marín viene a Washington desde 2017. Es originario de la región Mixteca de Oaxaca; hay muchos pueblos entre las montañas, la gente se viste de forma colorida y hay mucha tradición. De vuelta a casa, Margarito dedica su tiempo a ser taxista. Cada vez que regresa a su ciudad natal, le gusta pasar tiempo de calidad con su familia. Su esposa está embarazada de su segundo hijo y nacerá cuando Margarito regrese a casa después de la cosecha.

Reynaldo Díaz is from Toluca, Mexico and came to the US in 1986. He worked for 7 years on fishing boats in Alaska and Russian waters, catching king crab and many different kinds of fish; it was very hard work. Since 1988 he has been working in orchards in Okanogan, pruning, thinning, and picking cherries, apples, and pears. Reynaldo also has a large garden where he grows garlic, corn, and tomatoes to sell at farmers markets. He is a father to 11 kids and is considering he might retire in the next few years in Mexico, where he inherited a house from his father.

Reynaldo Díaz es de Toluca, México y llegó a los Estados Unidos en 1986. Trabajó durante 7 años en barcos de pesca en aguas de Alaska y Rusia, pescando cangrejos y muchos tipos diferentes de peces; fue un trabajo muy duro. Desde 1988 ha estado trabajando en huertas en Okanogan, podando, aclareando y recogiendo cerezas, manzanas y peras. Reynaldo también tiene un gran jardín donde cultiva ajo, maíz y tomates para vender en los mercados de agricultores. Es padre de 11 hijos y está considerando jubilarse en los próximos años en México, donde heredó una casa de su padre.

Rigoberto Vásquez Luna is from the state of Oaxaca and was born in 1988. He has a family and a 10-year-old daughter. He works in the fields planting corn and beans. He has been coming to the United States since 2014 on an H-2A visa. This is how he has managed to build a house and other assets that have helped his family get ahead. He thanks his employers for the opportunity they give him to return to work with them each year at Whitestone.

Rigoberto Vásquez Luna es del estado de Oaxaca y nació en 1988. Tiene una familia y una niña de 10 años. Se dedica al campo sembrando maíz y frijol. Lleva viniendo a los Estados Unidos desde 2014 con visa H-2A. Así ha logrado hacer una casa y otros bienes que han ayudado a salir adelante a su familia. Le da gracias a sus patrones por la oportunidad que le dan de regresar a trabajar cada año con ellos en Whitestone.

Saúl Rivera Cruz was born in 1996 and has been at Whitestone as an H-2A temporary worker since 2015. He really enjoys being here with his colleagues and with our Whitestone team. Saúl is originally from Oaxaca, Mexico. Back in jis hometown, he works in construction; he’s been doing it for several year and likes it. Hes currently starting a family and has a young son. Saúl was with him for his first six months and when he returns home, his son will almost be 2 years old.

Tracy Weeks is a 3rd generation apple farmer and has been working in orchards since he was a kid growing up here in Tonasket. He has lots of good memories of working on his father’s orchard during the summers along with a large group of friends from school, and he ran his grandmother’s orchard in Loomis for more than 10 years in the 80s and 90s. Tracy has been doing tractor work at Whitestone since 2011; he loves working outdoors and the different seasons. So much has changed in the apple growing business since he was a kid; the types and number of varieties, for example. There are so many different ones now, though he wonders where they are all sold because he doesn’t see them in the local grocery store. Lots of changes in equipment also. He shares that he used to bring in one bin of harvested apples at a time from the orchard, often working until 10pm. Now, he hooks up a trailer to the tractor that can carry 4 bins at a time. That’s a lot faster!

Tracy Weeks es un agricultor de manzanas de tercera generación y ha estado trabajando en huertas desde que era un niño que creció aquí en Tonasket. Tiene muchos buenos recuerdos de trabajar en la huerta de su padre durante los veranos junto con un gran grupo de amigos de la escuela, y estuvo a cargo de la huerta de su abuela en Loomis durante más de 10 años en los años 80 y 90. Tracy ha estado trabajando con tractores en Whitestone desde 2011; le encanta trabajar al aire libre y las diferentes estaciones. Mucho ha cambiado en el negocio del cultivo de manzanas desde que era un niño; los tipos y número de variedades, por ejemplo. Hay tantos diferentes ahora, aunque se pregunta dónde se venden todos porque no los ve en la tienda de comestibles local. Muchos cambios en el equipo también. Él comparte que solía traer un contenedor de manzanas cosechadas a la vez desde la huerta, a menudo trabajando hasta las 10pm. Ahora, engancha un remolque al tractor que puede transportar 4 contenedores a la vez. ¡Eso es mucho más rápido!
