It’s no secret that 2026 has been a tough year for fruit, and our small family orchard is no exception. Weather, pollination issues, and increasing agricultural costs across the board have made the 2026 growing season a particularly challenging one.
A warmer-than-usual winter led to more pests than usual (tough for an organic farm!), then a cool spring with extreme temperature fluctuations and late frosts disrupted bud formation on our fruit trees. This has been tough on the bees, so pollination has been poorer than usual, and we’re also in the 4th consecutive year of drought in our state of Washington.
But don’t worry – we’re still here, and we’re still harvesting!
Here’s what you can expect from us this harvest season:
- Limited online product availability for fresh organic apples and pears. To make sure you’re the first to know when fresh stock is available online, sign up for our newsletter! For local customers who order online, we encourage you to shop in person at local stores throughout Washington that stock our fruit or call us and stop by to pick up your order.
- A less predictable harvest schedule. Each apple and pear varietal always greets the harvest on its own schedule… and that’s proving to be even tougher to predict this growing season.
- Fun & unique fruit shapes! Keep an eye out for special offerings of fruit that are a little more funny-looking than usual, but with the same excellent flavor from our carefully selected heirloom fruit varieties. “Ugly fruit” will be labeled so you can decide if that’s what you want to order.
We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate all the challenges this growing season has thrown at us. Our family has been working on this orchard since 1993, through good years and not so good years. We’re looking forward to many more seasons of farming for families… yours and ours!
